The cannabis industry in the United States is still relatively new. The uses of marijuana are varied, not only can it be used as a psychoactive substance but it can also produce byproducts such as hemp and CBD. There are more flexible regulations for the industrial production of hemp, particularly in terms of its cultivation and distribution of this plant as an agricultural product. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is from the non-psychoactive portion of the plant and is used in a wide range of products from cosmetics to ingestible oils that are used to create a feeling of relaxation and calm. Still, personal cultivation of this type of cannabis was not widely recognized. During a survey in 2020, 11 percent of respondents said they would definitely grow hemp or CBD personally if it was legal to do so. Comparatively, in both 2019 and 2020, majority of respondents said they definitely would not grow hemp or CBD, even if it was legal.
