In 2022, the province of Maluku had the largest share of regional GDP contribution from fisheries, at 13.3 percent. Maluku water provides more than 20 percent of Indonesia's fisheries resources. Furthermore, three of Indonesia's nine biggest fishing grounds, namely Banda, Arafura, and Seram Sea, are located in the Maluku water.
