Agricultural land surface & vegan diet 2018
In 2018, 1.5 billion hectares were used for agriculture worldwide, with the majority of this surface being used for livestock. If 20 percent of the global meat-eaters went vegan and therefore did not consume animal products, the surface could decrease to 1.3 billion hectares, with livestock areas making up 73 percent of it. Additionally, if 60 percent of the meat-eating population started a vegan diet, the agriculture land would decline to 924 million hectares and livestock would need just 52 percent of it.
