Prefectures with lower eating out frequency after tax hike in Japan 2019
Japan increased its consumption tax from eight to ten percent in late 2019. However, exemptions are in place for the food services industry. While eating in at premises is taxed with ten percent, food items ordered for take-away are taxed at eight percent.
