According to a 2018 survey, over half of people living in Mexico City spend more money than usual during the Lent-Easter period due to the consumption of red meat alternatives. That same year, 42.7 percent of respondents said that their diet modifications during this season do not affect in any way their expenditure on food. Only four percent reported that their personal spending decreases with the substitution of red meat for other products.
