U.S. adult opinions on paying reparations to slave descendants in 2019 by age
In a 2019 survey, 29 percent of respondents aged 25 to 34 years old in the U.S. strongly supported the idea of paying financial reparations to U.S. citizens descended from slaves, while 48 percent of those aged above 55 were strongly opposed the idea. When figures are combined, 49 percent of those in the 25 to 34 age group supported the idea, while 31 percent opposed; in comparison, 30 percent of those aged above 55 supported the idea, while 59 percent opposed. Generally, the idea became less popular as respondents' age increased, while younger voters were more unsure of their opinion.
