Annual change in CO2 emissions in China 2011-2021, by quarter
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the strict lockdowns imposed, carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels and cement in China fell 4.8 percent in the first quarter of 2020, compared to 2019 levels. However, as lockdowns and restrictions started to ease in China, emissions began to rise again. In the first quarter of 2021, CO2 emissions increased 14.5 percent relative to the same period a year earlier.
