Youth literacy rate in Egypt 2005-2017, by gender
According to most recent available data, 88.2 percent of people in the age bracket of 15-24 years in Egypt were able to read and write a simple statement in 2017. Of these, the female youth literacy rate was at 86.8 percent, while males that could read and write were slightly higher at 89.5 percent. Both represented a drop from the level in 2013. However, compared to 2005, the rate was higher in females and slightly lower in males.
