Change in incidence of foodborne pathogens in the U.S. from 2017-19 to 2020
The incidence rate for salmonella decreased by around 22 percent in the United States in 2020 compared to the average annual incidence rate from 2017 to 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic is probably at least partly responsible for this decrease in incidence of many pathogens commonly transmitted through food. This statistic illustrates the percentage change in incidence of select pathogens in the United States from 2017-19 to 2020.
