Distribution of cultural relic auction firms in mainland China 2021, by city
As of 2021, more than 45 percent of all auction houses that were certified for trading cultural relics in China were based in Beijing, followed by Shanghai with a share of 10 percent, and Hangzhou with 6.62 percent. China's art and antique auction sector is highly concentrated in the Beijing-Tianjin area, with auction firms in Beijing and Tianjin generating more than 77 percent of all art and antiques auction revenue in the country in 2021.
