The unemployment rate of the youngest cohort in Spain peaked in 2013, when it reached 73.98 percent. In the same year, the unemployment rate of people aged 35 to 39 years was 22.7 percent, also the highest recorded since 2006. The 16-49 age group experienced an increase in the unemployment rate in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Spanish economy, but has since declined.
