Supplementary notes

¹ The source specifies that footfall is a metric used to compare pedestrian flow dynamics of urban locations, such as address, city centers, shopping centers, and retail parks. Data for shopping areas combine vehicle and pedestrian flows. One visit refers to one person entering the perimeter of the retail zone. If the same person comes back to the same zone multiple times during the same day, it is only counted once.

The selected out-of-town shopping areas were those reporting the highest visitor numbers in each country in 2022.
