Volkswagen Truck and Bus: production 2020-2023, by segment
The majority of the production of Volkswagen Truck and Bus was through trucks. In 2020, VW Truck and Bus produced about 13 thousand trucks and 5.7 thousand buses. In 2021, 53 thousand trucks and 4.4 thousand buses were manufactured. In 2022, trucks produced declined to about 50 thousand, while buses increased to about 8.6 thousand. Finally, in 2023, a significant scaling down in production was observed with 28 thousand trucks and 4.4 thousand buses produced.
There was a brief period of decline in production was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only VW Truck and Bus that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
