Number of women directors on company boards in India FY 2019-2022, by type
The total number of women directors in Indian corporate boardrooms of leading Indian companies increased from 166 in 2021 to 194 in 2022. However, most of these were independent directors. In 2022, there were 139 independent woman directors as compared to 55 other women directors or women executives graduating to Board positions. The Securities and Exchange Board of India mandates at least one independent woman director for the top 500 listed entities, however there is no so such condition for women executive directors.
