In 2024, Donald Trump secured the Republican presidential nomination 244 days before the U.S. general election, making it one of the shortest primary seasons in recent years. The only other election in which the nomination was won earlier was in 2008, when John McCain clinched the nomination 245 days before the 2008 general election.
