Sweden: hate crimes by bias motivation 2022

In 2022, more than half of the identified hate crimes were motivated by xenophobia and racism, 17 percent of these were Afrophobic. Out of the hate crimes, 16 percent were directed towards different religious groups, with Islamophobia representing eight percent of these incidents. Hate crimes against LGBTQIA+ individuals accounted for 12 percent of the reported incidents.

There were 4,788 reported cases of hate crime by the Swedish Police Authority in 2022. 2,695 of these cases have been confirmed and identified as a hate crime by The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention. In the report, 2,834 underlying hate crime motives could be detected.

The remaining percentage, unaccounted for in the statistic, was classified as unspecified hate crime.
