Capital cost of LDES technologies worldwide 2030-2040, by type
It was projected that mechanical long duration energy storage systems will account for the highest capital cost in 2030 and 2040, at over 200 U.S. dollars per kilowatt-hour electric for a 24-hour duration. By comparison, thermal and mechanical LDES were forecast to have a CAPEX below 50 U.S. dollars per kilowatt-hour electric by 2040.
