* The 76 countries included in this report are lower income countries that are or have been receiving food aid and are experiencing or have experienced food insecurity.
Food insecurity: occurs when per capita food consumption for a country or income decile falls short of the nutritional target of roughly 2,100 calories per person per day
Distribution gap: the difference between projected food availability and the food needed to increase consumption in food-deficit income groups within individual countries to meet the recommended nutritional target. This measure focuses on the groups whose consumption is estimated to be below the nutritional target.
