Nuclear share of electricity production in Mainland China and Taiwan 2007-2021
In 2021, nuclear power accounted for almost 11 percent of the total electricity generation in Taiwan and for five percent of the generation in Mainland China. Over the past years, the nuclear share of electricity generation has been considerably higher in Taiwan compared to Mainland China. Nonetheless, figures in Taiwan decreased from a peak of around 20 percent of nuclear share in 2009 to a minimum of just above nine percent in 2017. In 2016, Taiwan planned to phase out nuclear energy before 2025, but the governmental policies changed in 2019, when the plan to shut down Taiwanese nuclear facilities was removed.
