This statistic shows a breakdown of the severity of the violent crime responsible for victimizations in the United States from 2003 to 2012 distinguished by the victim-offender relationship. Between 2003 and 2012, about 22 percent of violent victimizations by ex-spouses were serious violent crimes, as rape, aggravated assault or robbery, while 78 percent were only simple assaults.
