Card payments at POS in Sweden 2000-2022

The amount of payment transactions at point of sale (POS) terminals with cards issued in Sweden from 2000 to 2020 generally increased throughout this period. In 2020, over 2.7 billion payments with local cards were made in the country.

Cashless society
Sweden is transitioning to a cashless society rapidly. The use of cash money has drastically dropped over the 2010-2020 period. While different digital payment methods are popular, Swish takes the lead with 94 percent of Swedes using it in 2020.
