This statistic displays the distribution of global codeine consumption by region, from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, the United Kingdom utilized approximately 5.3 percent of the world's amount of codeine. Back in 2019, the share stood at nearly 14 percent. Codeine is mostly manufactured from morphine through a semi-synthetic process. There has also been an increase in the cultivation of the opium poppy, which is also used to extract codeine.
