McDonald’s has been able to lower its energy consumption over the last few years. In 2017, energy consumption at McDonald’s company-owned restaurants totaled 1,420 gigawatt hours. McDonald’s plans to reduce energy usage through using innovate and efficient technologies like LED lighting and energy efficient kitchen equipment.

The company has vowed to source 100 percent of their guest packaging from renewable, recycled or certified sources by 2025. They are also aiming to recycle all of this guest packaging from their restaurants. McDonald’s has also strived to reduce greenhouse gas emissions emitted from its restaurants. It has set a goal to reduce emissions from its restaurants and offices by 36 percent by 2030 from the 2015 emission levels. McDonald’s has also committed to reducing emissions intensity across its supply chain. As a part of the company’s broader strategies, McDonald’s also launched beef sustainability goals that apply to the countries supplying most of the fast food restaurant’s beef.
