Norway: adoptions 2022

The number of adoptions in Norway fell from 2012 to 2014, before stabilizing. In 2012, a total of 457 adoptions were registered in the country. However, in 2022, it fell to only 232. The most common type of adoption was the adoption of stepchildren.

From 2006, Statistics Norway received a full copy of the central adoption register once every year in order to produce the annual statistics. Before 2006 the adoption reports have been submitted by the population register to Statistics Norway for statistical purposes. Before 2006 this includes foster child adoptions, anonymous adoptions and other types of adoptions. From 2006 foster child adoptions are in an own group.
