In 2023, the leading country of destination for avocado exports from Mexico was the United States, with a volume of over one million metric tons. Ranking second was Canada, with 87 thousand metric tons of avocado, followed by Japan, with almost 35 thousand metric tons of avocado exports. Avocado exports from Mexico to the U.S.

Mexico is the leading exporter of avocados worldwide. In 2023, the total volume of avocados exported from Mexico reached over 1.2 million metric tons, and it corresponded to a total export value of around 2.8 billion U.S. dollars. This fruit is particularly popular in the United States at social gatherings and during special events such as the Super Bowl. In the four weeks leading up to the 2023 Super Bowl, Mexico exported over 107 thousand metric tons of avocados to its northern neighbor. Avocado is exported either whole, without skin or as guacamole.

U.S. consumption

In 2022, the United States reported an avocado consumption volume of about 2.8 billion pounds in total, and over nine pounds per capita. Some reasons why it is so popular include it being considered a healthy food containing "good" fats, according to a consumer survey conducted by the Hass Avocado Board.
