Romania: industrial prices for electricity 2003-2020

This statistic shows the industry prices of electricity in Romania from 2003 to 2020, in euro cents per kilowatt hour. According to the data, the prices for electricity increased over this period from 4.43 euro cents per kilowatt hour in 2003 to 10.63 euro cents per kilowatt hour in 2020. Out of the total electrical energy generated in Romania, over 60 percent was destined for industry consumption and only 20.8 percent for household consumption.

Electricity generation

In 2020, over one third of the energy in Romania was generated by thermal power plants and around 20 percent by nuclear electric power plants. The amount of electricity generated in Romania did not have a consistent evolution over the last 30 years. As a result, it peaked in 1989 at 75.9 terawatts per hour and decreased to 59.5 terawatts per hour by 2019.

Electricity prices for households

An increase was also registered in the electricity prices for households, which amounted to 14.21 euro cents by the end of 2019, the highest value recorded since 2010. As a consequence, consumption expenditure in Romanian households with water and electricity represented 16.1 percent of the monthly overall expenses.
