Japan: primary energy supply by source

The total primary energy supply of petroleum in Japan amounted to approximately 7.65 thousand petajoules in fiscal year 2021. To be less dependent in the import of fossil fuels as well as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Japanese government is currently working on replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources and nuclear energy.
