International aid and human rights organizations most appealing charity type
Over three million Dutch were either members or donors of international aid and human rights organizations, making this the most widely supported type of charity in the country. Organizations focusing on wellbeing were however nearly equally popular, with over 2.1 million members and donors. By comparison, less than 21,000 Dutch actively supported arts and culture organizations.
Small rather than large contributions
Although many Dutch state to donate money to charities, few spend large sums on charity on a monthly basis. A 2018 survey found that nearly half of the respondents participating donated a maximum value of ten euros per month. By contrast, only three percent of survey participants gave more than 100 euros to charitable organizations monthly.
