While the value of wagers in this region experienced a sharp annual increase, it remained below the figure reported in 2019, the year before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Campania and Lazio followed in the ranking in 2022.

Lombardy, Campania, and Lazio were also the regions with the highest number of stores selling lottery games in Italy in 2022. Meanwhile, Naples (in Campania), Rome (in Lazio), and Milan (in Lombardy) were the Italian cities with the highest gross gaming revenue (GGR) from sports bets placed in agencies from January to October 2023.

Similarly, the total win amount and the gross gaming revenue of the Italian gambling market, including both the retail and online segments, also surpassed pre-pandemic levels.
