Japan: revenue share of animation production companies by segment

The overseas segment accounted for more than 28 percent of the revenue generated by anime production companies in Japan in 2021. The total revenue during that year amounted to 292.7 billion Japanese yen. As anime in Japan are often produced by production committees consisting of multiple corporations from different industries, the sales revenue of Japan's animation industry as a whole is significantly larger than the revenue recorded by companies that engage in the actual production of animation.
