This survey displays the compliance of grandfathered health care plans with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in U.S. organizations as of 2017, according to a survey among HR professionals. Some 70 percent of respondents stated that their grandfathered health care plans meet all requirements and are fully compliant with the ACA.

Respondents who answered “don’t know” were excluded from this analysis. The statistic includes only organizations that have a grandfathered health plan (around 16 percent of all respondents).
Grandfathered plans are health plans that were in place before March 23, 2010, when the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. These plans are allowed to offer the coverage they did before the Affordable Care Act.
