Gross electricity generation share in the European Union 1990-2020, by fuel

The use of solid fuels for electricity generation in the European Union has been falling steadily since 1990. Solid fuels accounted for 12.8 percent of gross electricity generation in the EU in 2020, compared to 35.8 percent in 1990. Meanwhile, the electricity generation share of renewables increased 25 percentage points in that same time, reaching 39 percent in 2020.
