Italy: checking expiry date of perishable food products 2016, by frequency
The expiry date
Even when shopping, the expiry date seemed not to be a priority for Italian consumers, as only seven percent of respondents of this survey paid attention to it when purchasing food. If we exclude the price, information on products and health aspects of products were more important factors in choosing food products than a further out expiry date was.
If products are discounted
If products near to expiration are discounted, the consumers behavior might be different. In general, Italian consumers prefer to buy discounted food only if they need it, but 10 percent of them tend to look at the expire date and if it would be far out, they would purchase all the available discounted products.
