In 2022, the mining unit Peñasquito, operated by Newmont, was the leading gold producer in Mexico, with an annual output of nearly 566 thousand ounces. Torex Gold's El Limón-Guajes ranked second, with around 474 thousand ounces produced. One year earlier, gold was the leading mining product in Mexico, accounting for over 28 percent of the country's mine production value.
