Most visited castles and historical monument sites in England 2019-2022
The number of visits to castles, forts, and historical monument sites in England increased significantly in 2022 over the previous year but remained below the figures reported prior to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the Tower of London ranked as the most visited historical attraction, welcoming just over two million visitors in 2022. Meanwhile, the iconic archaeological site of Stonehenge, which had the second-highest number of visitors in 2019, ranked third in 2022, after the Abbey Gardens. Due to the health crisis, the number of visits made to Stonehenge was significantly lower between 2020 and 2022 than in pre-pandemic years.
