European leading banks by total equity 2021

Total equity is a measure that is used to determine the value of a company after all liabilities have been paid. It is measured in the sum total of total assets minus total liabilities. In 2021, HSBC Holdings had the highest value of total equity at approximately 182.5 billion euros. HSBC was followed by BNP Paribas and Banco Santander, which had a total equity of approximately 122.5 and 97 billion euros, respectively.

The figures of HSBC Holdings and UBS AG were converted from U.S. dollars. The figures of Barclays PLC, Lloyds Banking Group, and NatWest Group were converted from British pounds. The figure of Sberbank Group was converted from Russian rubles. Date of currency conversion used for calculations was 31st December 2021:

1 GBP = 1.1901 EUR
1 RUB = 0.01172 EUR
