Best-selling PEV models in Europe YTD 2023

Tesla’s Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Europe as of June 2023, beating the Tesla Model 3 to first place. The Volvo XC40 and Volkswagen's ID.4 and ID.3 rounded off the top five.

European brands are playing catch-up

Europe's automakers seem to have taken on the challenge for the title of the most successful electric car brand on home soil. This trend was also reflected in the European electric vehicle fleet. European brands continue to face stiff competition from Tesla, and several Chinese automakers are expected to tap further into the market in 2023.

Adoption rates in European electric car markets

Car intenders in Europe's largest markets were slow to adopt electric vehicle models, but Germany put itself in pole position in 2022 with record electric car sales of just under 823,900 units. Compared to overall registrations, the share of plug-in electric vehicles was particularly high in Norway.
