The more recent eCommerce boom has led to the production of a multitude of digital marketplaces. Online marketplaces are becoming more and more popular due to convenience, the ability for sellers to reach a wider audience, and has allowed buyers to compare products and prices more easily. As of 2022, Amazon and eBay are the most visited online marketplaces worldwide. Although focused exclusively on the Chinese market, Taobao and Tmall were the world’s leading online marketplaces based on gross merchandise volume (GMV). In 2021, these two companies generated a total of US$711 billion and US$672 billion, respectively.
