Carbonated soft drinks have historically been the most popular category in the country, and locals have a rather high consumption of this type of beverage. The industry giant Coca-Cola FEMSA is a clear example of this preference: sparkling soft drinks account for over 70 percent of the company’s sales in Mexico. This trend is also clearly visible in consumer behavior as Coca-Cola is incontestably the top beverage brand in the country. To a lesser extent, the flavored soft drinks and sports and energy drinks segments are also worth mentioning as they are slowly earning their place in Mexican homes.Time for a change?
In recent years, concerns regarding health issues associated with high sugar consumption prompted the Mexican government to implement various regulations to tackle the issue.
