Health equipment in Mexican hospitals
Anesthesia, ultrasound, and x-ray machines are some of the most common medical devices found in Mexican hospitals. Anesthesia machines are commonly used for delivering general anesthesia during surgery and similar medical procedures, while ultrasound and x-ray machines are commonly used for diagnosis. Computed tomography (CT) scanners, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, and positron emission scanners (PET), all within the category of magnetic resonance imaging systems, are less commonly found in Mexican hospitals. In comparison to other Latin American countries, Mexico has a relatively average density of these type of devices. The gross production value of medical equipment in Mexico was estimated at an equivalent to four billion U.S. dollars in 2021, a figure that has been consistently increasing in recent years, while creating employment for over 158,000 people in the country. Mexico is a net exporter of medical equipment, with a positive and increasing trade balance, and with the United States as its main import and export partner within the industry. As of 2022, the main importing companies of medical equipment in Mexico were Medline, Johnson & Johnson, and Cordis, all headquartered in the United States, and accounting for a market share of five to nine percent.
