According to a 2020 survey, 59 percent of respondents expressed some level of concern about the UK becoming too dependent on energy imports from foreign countries. Other sources of worry included the supplies of fossil fuels not being sufficient to meet the country’s annual energy demand, with roughly half of all respondents expressing such concern. Additionally, 64 percent of respondents thought the UK was not investing fast enough in alternative sources of energy.
A different survey from 2019 found that 41 percent of consumers spent between 701 and 1,200 British pounds on home energy. Total household spending on electricity reached roughly 1.77 billion British pounds, having increased from some 1.39 billion British pounds in 2010.
With regards to trusting energy companies, in 2019 most consumers in Great Britain expected their suppliers to charge a fair price. Respective shares reached 58 percent for electricity suppliers and 50 percent for gas suppliers.
Generally, respondents indicated their support for renewable energy developments in the United Kingdom. In 2020, 86 percent of respondents supported solar energy.
