China: most involved institutions in BRI efforts 2021

According to a survey among central banks, Chinese development and state-owned banks were the most involved institution in the implementation of BRI projects. The Belt and Road Initiative is a global development initiative introduced by the Chinese government in 2013 involving infrastructure construction and investment in nearly 70 countries and organizations.

Votes were cast using a scale of 1-5, where 5 denotes the most important source of funding and 1 the least important. Nine central banks did not respond.

The survey was conducted among central banks:
13 from Europe;
5 from Asia and Oceania;
3 from the Middle East;
2 from Africa;
2 from the Americas.
