Eat Out to Help Out: amount claimed UK 2020

As of August 27, 2020, approximately 522 million British pounds had been reimbursed to restaurant businesses that took part in the 'Eat Out to Help Out Scheme' in the United Kingdom. The scheme was set up in response to the COVID-19 crisis, to encourage people to eat out at restaurants following a nationwide lockdown, by offering diners discounts on certain days of the week that could be claimed back from the government. Around 85 thousand restaurants registered to take part in scheme, which lasted from July 13 to August 31, 2020.

* The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme was set up by the UK government to help restaurant and food service businesses struggling due to the coronavirus crisis. The scheme incentivises customers to eat out at restaurants by giving them a discount at participating businesses which they can claim back from the government. Restaurants were able to register for the scheme from July 13, 2020, and able to claim reimbursements for discounts given to diners from August 7, 2020. The scheme ended on August 31, 2020.
