The value of cash withdrawn by Italian households decreased steadily between 2018 and 2020. In 2018, Italian households withdrew over 426 billion euros in cash. Since then, the value dropped by approximately 90 billion euros, reaching 346 billion euros in 2020.

Operations at traditional tellers include those made with checks or with other instruments (e.g. payments orders and internal transfers). For ATM withdrawals, the instruments used are payment cards."
