At the time of the financial crash of 2008, full-time workers numbered around 158.7 million, but dropped to 147.9 million by 2013. It was not until ten years later in 2018, that the number of full-time workers recovered to pre-crisis levels. The number of part-time employees has grown consistently since 2002, growing from less than 25 million employees to over 35 million in 2022.
