In 2020, the main source of external financing for the Moroccan economy was loans, which accounted for nearly 50 billion Moroccan dirhams (MAD) (around 5.5 billion U.S. dollars) of the net flows that year. This mainly constituted credit granted to financial enterprises and public administrations, and represented a significant increase from the 14.9 billion MAD in the previous year. Furthermore, securities and shareholding reached a value of 13.6 billion MAD, roughly 1.5 billion U.S. dollars.
