In 2021, the number of hospital beds in Spain reached around 140,397 units, from which roughly 88 percent, or 123,339 beds, were somatic care beds. By health function, the largest number of hospital beds available in the European country that year were curative (acute) care beds, with a total of 119,490 for a population of around 47.36 million. Moreover, Spain reported 19,051 long-term care beds and 1,856 rehabilitative care beds that year.
