In 2023, around 41 percent of supermarkets in Japan had organic food sections set up in their stores. This represented a decrease by almost six percent of grocery stores compared to the previous year.
Organic foods in Japan have to be certified under the Organic Japanese Agricultural Standards (Organic JAS) system or a comparable system in case of imported products.
