In the fiscal year 2021, the employees engaged in Japan's shipbuilding industry totaled roughly 67 thousand, decreasing from 68 thousand in the preceding fiscal year. The domestic shipbuilding industry supplies around three in four ships to the Japanese merchant fleet.
