Triennial debit card penetration in Brazil 2011-2024, by demographic
According to a three-year survey, two out of three Brazilians owned a debit card in 2021 but less than half used one. The difference between ownership and usage was roughly 20 percentage points in 2021, although this difference did decline when compared to 2017. The report adds that men were more likely than women to own such a payment card in the South American country. Gen Z - or the age group 15 to 24 years in this survey - generally owned fewer debit cards than their older counterparts.
